After a delay of two years, the Chennai smart city project is finally going to start in year 2017. Main aim under Chennai smart city project will be in focussing on traffic issues in the state Under the project .

Congested commercial hub T Nagar will be the first to be cured under smart city project mission. The finance cleared for this purpose is Rs 200 crore.According to officials all the paper work has been completed in order to launch the smart city project. He said just the recruitment process is left a bit that too will be completed by the end of this month.

The areas that have been selected under the mission to study are neighbourhood of T Nagar like Pondy Bazaar, Mambalam, Pangal Park.The areas selected will deal with the issue such as strengthening of the electrical network, water supply, solid waste management, IT connectivity and digitisation, sanitation, pedestrian-friendly pathways and ramp, non-motorised transport, intelligent traffic management systems and retrofit of green open spaces.

According to the source-Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has given the major role and he will soon start coordinating with the State, Chennai Corporation and the Union Ministry of urban development which funds the project
According to Top Official – A meeting has been planned over the next few weeks to finalise the smart city plans and T Nagar. T Nagar will be the first locality to benefit from the project. The SPV for Chennai will be responsible for overall supervision of the project starting with planning, approving, implementing and evaluating the development
All care of traffic, pollution, online services, water management and solar energy are to be dealt with advance technology will be in the hands of Chennai Smart City Ltd (CSCL) formed.
