In the third large smart cities competition, Uttar Pradesh has nominated three cities Kanpur, Agra and Varanasi followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. According to the published news, the NetApp company has signed the MoU with Karnal and Varanasi Municipal Corporation for Smart City initiatives. NetApp is a storage and data management company.
The Varanasi is very popular and oldest city in India for its regional culture and holy river of Ganga. Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has shortlisted Varanasi city as one of the 98 smart cities under the competitive process of ‘Smart City Challenge’.
The Government has finalized the 100 smart cities to be constructed in India. In the List Uttar Pradesh has got the highest number of cities and its followed by Tamil Nadu. The top five list is given below.
Uttar Pradesh (13),
Tamil Nadu (12),
Madhya Pradesh (seven), and
Gujarat and Karnataka (six each).
According to the official of the Government these smart cities will be consrtucted in three phases, the first phase which is to be started this year will be aiming to constructing 20 smart cities while the rest would be done in two batches of 40 each.
The Following list contains those cities which are likely to be converted to Smart cities.
UP: Lucknow, Allahabad and Varanasi
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai
Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Surat and Rajkot
Punjab: Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar
Haryana: Gurgaon and Faridabad
Himachal Pradesh: Shimla and Haridwar and
Roorkee in Uttarakhand.
