PM Modi Launches Smart City

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the Centre’s ‘Smart City mission’ project, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday launched the most ambitious ‘Smart City Projects’ Under the Smart Cities Mission in Pune.

PM Modi has launched 84 “Smart City” projects in Pune. Of them, 14 projects are designated for Pune alone, and 69 projects are earmarked for 19 other cities across the country at an investment of around Rs 2,000 crore and Modi also said it’s a mass movement.

The 20 selected Smart Cities were linked to the Pune venue through video conferencing wherein their states’ Chief Ministers and other leaders gave details of their plans for the Smart Cities in their states and interacted with the PM. PM Modi urged people to consider urbanisation as an opportunity and he has also said gone are the days when it was seen as a challenge or obstacle.

PM Modi while addressing more than 5,000 leaders of different segment said, “Smart City Mission is now succeeding as a people’s movement as envisaged”.

PM Modi said that over 25 lakh people have given valuable suggestion to his government at their official website.

Besides this PM Modi also inaugurated a contest on ‘Make Your City Smart’ and a Smart Net Portal at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, few kilometres away from Pune city.

PM Modi to kick start works in 20 smart cities on June 25

PM Modi Launched 20 Smart Cities

After the successful launch of Smart City Mission to develop 100 smart cities across India. Finally, first 20 smart cities work will start from June 25 with 14 projects in Pune and 69 other projects will commence in other parts of the country with the total cost of Rs 1,770 crore.

PM Modi will launch projects from Pune’s 5,000-capacity Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex for celebrating the first anniversary of government’s flagship 100 Smart City Mission.

The Urban Development Minister said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Smart City Projects June 25, 2016, kick-starting execution of Smart City Plans of 20 cities selected in the first round of ‘Smart City Challenge Competition.

He also said apart from the Pune’s projects other 69
such project works will be launched on the same day in the other ‘smart cities’ with an investment of Rs 1,770 crore.

The main thing is that these projects are related to the solid waste management under Swachh Bharat Mission, water supply projects, sewage treatment plants and development of open and green spaces under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

These projects will also include providing housing for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and area development and technology based pan-city solutions under Smart Cities Mission.

PM Modi will also start ‘Make Your City SMART’ contest for designing smart cities with the participation of citizens and winners will get a reward ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs one lakh.

The urban development minister also said the suggestions and designs suggested by the citizens will be duly incorporated by the respective smart cities.

The prime minister will also inaugurate ‘Smart Net Portal’ which enables the cities under different urban missions to share ideas and solutions for various issues during the implementation of various missions.

The launch of all the first batch of 20 smart cities under Smart Cities Mission will be linked through video-conferencing. The selected first 20 cities to develop as smart cities have proposed a total investment of Rs. 48,000 crore in area development and pan-city solutions.

In this mission, some project to be launched for mini-sewerage treatment plants, 444 smart classrooms, bio-methanation plant, WiFi, smart LED streetlights, city surveillance and command and control centre would be initiated.

On this occasion, the Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagara Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, among others will present.

Besides Maharashtra’s Pune, other cities whose projects would be launched include Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), Kochi (Kerala) and Belagavi (Karnataka).

The Municipal Corporation of Pune has  prepared the Smart City Plan (SCP) to implement Smart City Mission Plan to develop as a Smart City.

Pune City has been selected as a Smart City in the list of 98 Smart Cities. It has successfully completed the competitive process of ‘Smart City Challenge’. The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has shortlisted Pune City along with the 9 more cities from the state of Maharashtra.
