The Masdar is a zero-carbon  smart city and a hub of science. Modi arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 34 years.

During an hour-long tour the Masdar City authorities briefed the Prime Minister about various aspects of the Masdar City, situated around 17 kilometers southeast of the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi.

The UAE smart city Masdar inspires PM Modi to believe ‘science is life’. “Discussing urban development and next generation urban spaces at Masdar City,” he said in a tweet.

The Prime Minister also had a ride in a self-driving car, part of Masdar City‘s Private Rapid Transit or PRT. “We have heard about BRT. Masdar City has PRT or Private Rapid Transit,” he said.

“Pondering the possibilities. PM @narendramodi discusses the future of urban innovation with Masdar City’s architects,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in a tweet along with a picture of Modi’s visit to the unique city.

BMC Bhubaneswar claim to include two cities under smart city programme

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) submitted a self-assessment report to the Department of Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday.

According to the BMC report, its claim for inclusion into first phase of Smart City programme. The first report would be sent to the state-level committee for scrutiny.On July 21, Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati would propose two cities to include in first 20 cities under the Smart City project.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be announced the name of these cities on 3 August 2015. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had posted the guidelines for smart cities on its website for the civic and urban local bodies to prepare self-assessment reports on how to set up smart cities.

“The selection committee would look forward to how far citizens have been able to utilise facilities, publication of monthly newsletter, fund and resource management, housing projects, automated street lighting and revenue generation,” a BMC official said.

Sources said the report contains details about corporation meetings, resolutions, sources of revenue generation and expenditure and annual audit report.

The Union Cabinet Approved the 100 Smart City Projects

The Union Cabinet has approved the 100 Smart City Projects. The Smart City project was approved by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the first Union Budget of NDA government.
Smart City project will be directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi had promised 100 smart cities by 2022 to help meet the rush. Currently a Smart City Project is under construction in Gujarat.
The India Government has allocated around Rs 6000 crore for development of these smart cities.

PM Modi will launch two mission for developing 100 smart cities & 500 cities this month

Smart City News: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two flagship urban development programs in this month after a high-profile celebration on 21 june.

officials said the PM will launch two mission for developing 100 smart cities and 500 cities over the next five years first Smart Cities Mission and second Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

According to urban development ministry officials, the guidelines follow an incentive-based approach to get funds for developing urban infrastructure in cities.

This is a high degree of autonomy for the states, and the two mission for designing the urban renewal project will be directed under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After the launch of two high- profile mission the PM making a strong political pillar in comparison of UPA’s urban renewal mission with the BJP’s commitment.

The Modi government has committed Rs 98,000 crore for five years, according to the UPA’s report card, which says that the commitment was Rs 42,800 crore and the final release was Rs 36,000 crore under JNNURM.
