Lucknow topped in fast track competition for the selection of smart cities. Finally, 13 cities have been selected by the Urban Development Ministry to develop as a smart city in India.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has signed an agreement with the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) for a smart development in Smart City Mission. The European civic experts have smart solutions for developing the state capital into a smart city.
Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh which is also called the city of Nawabs. It is the second largest city in the north and central India after Delhi. Lucknow has been selected as one of the 98 Smart Cities under Urban Minister 100 Smart City Mission. The 100 Smart City Mission was launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21, 2015.
The Government has finalized the 100 smart cities to be constructed in India. In the List Uttar Pradesh has got the highest number of cities and its followed by Tamil Nadu. The top five list is given below.
Uttar Pradesh (13),
Tamil Nadu (12),
Madhya Pradesh (seven), and
Gujarat and Karnataka (six each).
According to the official of the Government these smart cities will be consrtucted in three phases, the first phase which is to be started this year will be aiming to constructing 20 smart cities while the rest would be done in two batches of 40 each.
The Following list contains those cities which are likely to be converted to Smart cities.
UP: Lucknow, Allahabad and Varanasi
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai
Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Surat and Rajkot
Punjab: Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar
Haryana: Gurgaon and Faridabad
Himachal Pradesh: Shimla and Haridwar and
Roorkee in Uttarakhand.
