Centre to Add List of New Cities under Smart Cities Mission
The central government has decided to add new smart cities list under Smart Cities Mission on 23 June 2017. Along with this, the government will also announce a new metro policy featuring innovative financing. This information was released by the Urban Development Mr. Vejkaiah Naidu.
Mr. Naidu said that the new metro policy will enable greater private participation and innovative financing through the Value Capture Financing. Besides, it will ensure conformity to comprehensive mobility plans.
He also informed that the government will announce the list of new cities which will be added under Smart Cities Mission and the name of new cities would be announced on 23 June 2017.
Mr. Naidu added. With the commissioning of the 11.3-km line between Mantri Square Sampige Road and Yelachenahalli, metro network of 42.3 km — with 40 stations in East-West and North-South corridors for Phase I — has been completed at a cost of ₹13,845 crore.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister inaugurated 13.4 km length Kochi Metro.The total metro length operational in the country. 370 km in the cities of Delhi and NCR, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jaipur, and Mumbai.
Around 517 km is under construction in different cities, including Delhi and NCR, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Nagpur and another around 522 km is under consideration.
