The Centre government has announced the name of 27 smart cities from 12 states. The Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that there are 63 cities have participated in the second round competition and finally 27 cities have selected. Of these, 5 cities from Maharashtra, 4-4 from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, 3 from UP, 2-2 from Punjab, Rajasthan, MP and Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Orissa, Gujarat nominated 1-1 cities under Smart City Mission. Last few days the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnvis said the Maharashtra Government has selected Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad among 10 other cities in the state under the ‘Smart City Project’.
List of selected cities in Maharashtra:
- Navi Mumbai
- Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad,
- Kalyan Dombivali
These cities will be developed as smart cities under NDA government and other cities under mega Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) plan. The government has proposed to spend around Rs 1 lakh crore on the two schemes over the next five years. While Rs 48,000 crore has been earmarked for 100 smart cities, Rs 50,000 crore are marked for the AMRUT scheme for 500 cities
