AP Govt. Decided to Include 6 Municipal Towns into Smart Cities
As per the latest news, the Chandrababu Naidu government has decided to include six municipal towns into smart cities.This decision was taken in state cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday.
In this meeting, the government has given green signal to transform Srikakulam, Eluru, Ongole, Nellore, Kurnool and Anantapur into smart cities. While municipal elections are due in Ongole and Srikakulam, the other four towns have elected municipal councils.
According to the sources, before implementing smart city plan for the six urban civic bodies into cities, the AP government was well thought out to garner central funds.
In this regard, a senior official said that there is no clarity if the Centre will help with financial assistance to developing these six smart cities in the state. The central government has its own worries as far as granting funds for the smart cities it has declared across the country
However, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Tirupati have already been selected for the Smart City project and the total fund for these cities would be entirely borne by the Centre.
The municipal administration minister P Narayana said that the government had decided to change the face of six towns. He also said there is a dire need for acceleration of urban development in a phased manner and developing six smart cities will serve this purpose.
According to the sources, the minister said that the government will prepare special purpose vehicles (SPVs) for arranging fund to these new smart cities and besides other SPVs would be set up for each to the smart cities for collecting fund in a systematic manner.
In this process of developing smart cities the both Vijayawada and Guntur as part of the capital city development project. Almost all the cities in central and south coastal districts have been covered under the Smart Cities programme.
